What is CircAsana Yoga?

CircAsana Yoga is a sparkling blend of peaceful yoga magic, creative, colorful circus play and the power of positive psychology.

We believe in creativity, self-expression, self-love, sparkles, kindness, play, honesty, discipline, rainbows, communication, collaboration, magic, trust, pixie dust, global impact and YOUnicorns.

Our movement practices combine acrobatic, aerial, hoop, dance and other circus movement, with vinyasa yoga and restorative therapeutics. In this way, the CircAsana practice works to develop sustainable strength, flexibility, grace, joy and creativity.

The circus movement component focuses on the development of functional strength and flexibility, through connected-upside-down-ness, safe flight, infinite circles and other creative, playful activity. Classes incorporate pulling strength, pushing strength, core strength and active flexibility, leaving you balanced, with a warm heart and happy core, and ready for any physical challenge. At the same time, the circus movements encourage playful creativity and connection with the community you are practicing with.

The vinyasa yoga element explores graceful and creative movement, synchronizing dance, breath and mindfulness to open every corner of you, inspire peace and bring you into the present moment.

The restorative therapeutics serve as the super sweet fairy-dust on top, working to stabilize the joints and balance muscle groups for a long life of healthy movement.

Challenge yourself in the space between the known and unknown, and find your inner YOUnicorn!

This was an amazing teacher training. I’ve done many trainings before, and this truly was the first and only one where I feel Saffron and Amy made space for everyone to really feel comfortable. From the very experienced, to first-timers, I feel like everyone felt so safe, confident and loved. Even though there was a lot of nervousness on the last day, it just disappeared immediately when we all got into the room. It was great – I would do it again!

I really appreciate the beautiful qualities that both Amy and Saffron together bring to create an amazing course which can expand the yoga community. For me, (as a yoga teacher) understanding the principles of yoga, I really see the magic that they create – and that they spread this to everybody that they meet. To have a set course to study, and to build from, is an amazing gift to be able to spread through the community. I felt honored to be one of their students, and to be here, and I really see that they are amazing light workers.

I loved this training – this is the 4th teacher training that I’ve done, and the first time I actually felt comfortable teaching – which is a lot – that is a lot of hours, and in just this little 30-hour weekend, I actually felt really good guiding people through this. It was a really comfortable, beautiful, safe space, and amazing women, participating in and learning something new and beautiful and so fun. I’m very grateful.

My favorite part was that I felt like I could be me, or as Saffron and Amy would say it, be YOU, because for me, exercise and movement has not always been about perfect instruction, but giving my body what it needs. To have the freedom and a judgement-free environment to just move and experiment in your body, be flexible, and give your body the love, or get out the excess energy, that you need. Everyday I felt so fulfilled – stretched, my hips were warm and juicy - because you had plenty of time for self-expression, but then also guided ways to get into different postures.

The teachers

Amy Rowland

Previously a circus-performing lawyer yogi in Australia and Japan, Amy took a break from her corporate career to run away with the circus and do more yoga.

She performed as an adagio acrobat in Australia, studied at the circus school in China, street performed in Serbia, traveled with clowns in Mexico and practiced plenty of yoga along the way.

Amy is Co-Creator of CircAsana Yoga and Community Circus, and is a qualified Partner Acrobatics teacher, Aerial Yoga teacher, Sivananda Yoga teacher, Thai Massage therapist and positive psychology junkie.  She is currently studying Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Pennsylvania and Clown School in Los Angeles.

Amy leads CircAsana retreats, workshops and trainings worldwide, and coordinates CircAsana Yoga community circuses.  She also manages the Magnific Rock yoga retreat program, facilitating yoga retreats for inspiring yoga teachers from all over the world.

Saffron Van Rossem

Saffron believes creativity and movement  are the best medicine.  Saffron has been practicing yoga since 2008, and is a professional aerial silks performer internationally, qualified Partner Acrobatics teacher, Aerial Yoga teacher, functional movement and anatomy nerd.  She is a favorite yoga and circus arts teacher for both kids and adults alike worldwide.

Saffron is Co-Creator of CircAsana Yoga and Community Circus in Nicaragua.  Her classes combine her movement passions with her solid yoga foundation to create a truly unique experience.  She brings focus to the profound subtleties of the body mind connection through the medium of magical moving play.  Saffron's classes are simultaneously dynamic and slow, with interesting props (including hula hoops!), dance inspired sequences, and a sprinkling of partner acrobatics and aerial inspired flows and conditioning.

CircAsana Yoga community circus project

CircAsana Yoga periodically hosts community circuses at Magnific Rock and other hotels in Nicaragua.  The performances involve professional performers, children from the local school, unsuspecting hotel guests and anyone else who might have a slight inclination to test themselves in front of a friendly audience.

CircAsana retreats gives participants the opportunity to learn some of the CircAsana performance tricks of the trade, and be a part of the community circus creation formation.
